yes, no art posts for some time, although there's some in the making (suuuuuure Andrew) I SWEAR. I've done two shows and have recorded nowt. I suck like ten dogs.

However, I really must draw anyone and everyone's attention to this article by Marcus Westbury. here's the basic graph, which Amrcus has made available to all and sundry under creative commons, so get it around the traps I guess.
It's, uh, INTERESTING.

I met Marcus a long time ago, when he was doing that whole Octapod jive, and getting This Is Not Art to tick over (with a whole bunch of other people) and he's been a pretty busy guy ever since, getting some ideas on televsion and coming up with that whole Renew Newcastle thing, which has got to be one of the most interesting innovations in Australia for a while. I believe he has even very recently become a dad. Follow the guy on Twitter, even. he can even be fun as well as being a culture activist.

Anyway, I'll just leave the article link here then come back and write about it some.

In The Hall Of The Mountain King

Some images from my first ever solo show, In The Hall of The Mountain King.
There's an awful lot I could say about it, and perhaps I will later, but for now, the images will do. The Mountain King himself is the large beasty at the end. The exhbition took place at Inflight, and for the opening I played creepy Tasmanian Black Metal by Striborg, the space was candle lit.

Nazi Knife Exhibition

So, there's this gloriously wrongly named publication Nazi Knife. I've only ever looked at it on the web and fantasisd about the day when I would have so few bills as to be able to order some issues - maybe you could do it in the meantime. Anyway, the publication recently mounted an exhibtion in Rome which really floats my boat. I like the wrok but I also really like the location. Given my recent mild participation in the utterly fabulous Alleyway show, and the general track record I have of putting shows in strange palces, these shots made me salivate with envy and joy.

Anyone ever want to buy me a copy of N-Knife, feel free. I'll trade art with you.

Alley Way show 'sneak preview'

This rather exciting show is on Friday 21st - and I'm a bit excited; I like things that happne in non standard ways like this.
Aedan, the indefatigable organiser has pulled it all togethr in a month and built a structure covered in tarpaulins to house it all - just for one evening.

Exhibtions

So, I have my first ever solo show, entitled In The Hall Of The Mountain King up and running. It's at INFLIGHT, a Hobart A.R.I. which can be found out the back of the old Kaos cafe on Elzabeth Street, in Hobart. Hours the gallery is opne will most likely be Wednesday though to Saturday from 1 - 5, the show opened of Friday the 7th of May and will shut on the 25th - so get in and have look.

There will be photosots for all you non-islanders.

As well as that, local decent bloke Aedan Howllet is being an art crank after my own heart and having an exhibtion in an alleyway , and yes, I'm chucking something in this one as well. Here's the poster:

I have a feeling this will be a right hoot of a show, and rather wild and woolly, which is how I like it.

PISS (light)

this is a still image from an 'experimental' film I made - called PISS(light). The film was created by taking a roll of super 8 that had never been in a camera and immersing it in a jar of my own urine for year. The jar was sealed an dleft in a dark place. The jat itself, with the urine and the film in it's plastic canister was exhibited as the end of my honours year at the School Of Fine Art in Hobart. It smelt pretty bad on removal, but the experiment worked - the chemisty in the jar did something, etching into the emulsion. It looks quite different when it moves but this still is interesting in itself. I don't know that I will put the film itslef on the web just as yet.

The film itself has been screened to the public rarely, but it's something I am rather pleased with.

I've had STUFF ALL TIME to write anything up here and it's getting me down. Sickness that nags like a cheeky raven on the back fence, too many commitments and a pile projects - blimey, I'm doing a bit, but it's not all about me at least.

I miss analogue

Two images in this post.
Both were created using Analogue printing technology.

This image, The Card, is a color photocopy using an analogue copier that would find amazing colours in anything it touched. I loved the thing, and it was used to make lovely band flyers around Hobart by the savvy. There's a version of The Card below that's quite different - it's a manipulated via digital wizardry scan. This just came out like that - somewhat arcane to my mind.

This is Peril On The Sea.
It's a photocopy onto light blue card using brown ink. The poor assistant at the copy shop would have to pull out a huge ink roll and put in another and I would make ten cards for her trouble. I made very few of these and have but one left. It's precious in it's way as the technology is outmoded and gone, which I shall miss as I love the feel of these things. This lone print has survived much and has a few little creases; the back of it features the delicate filigree nibbles of silverfish as well.

The irony that I can share them readily due to digital technology doesn't escape me though.

This Image is a relic from sharehouse days. I found it and it's primitive and silly and I like it, so up it goes. It reminds me how I've always made art and scribbled on things long before I thought it was art.

I am stoked as I'll be having a solo exhibition next year. At this stage, it's to be called "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" and it will be an expansion of the construction (see below) I made for the Real Good Drawer show (also see below).

It'll be at INFLIGHT A.R.I.

The idea is to take up the entire space and make a huge environment that will be sort of a forest, a mountain range and a throne. All in the firmest lo-fi traditions of course, unless I get some kind of high paying job and can pay people to dress as trolls.

I jut moved house so there'll be a moment before more pictures and stuff go up but I'm enjoying this. And I have a studio now, so I have to play with that as well.

Triangles

there's a few of these triangle collages and drawings about. The B&W one(s), I use to make other things - see below. It's a wee bit of a new thing for me, but all this is really.
Most of the triangles are to be in the zine, Wizardz. I think this could be why it has such a Seventies title.
They are somewhat inspired/ripped off from my pal, Lach Conn, who makes terrific art.

The Card

This is version of a collage I made many years ago. It's a random postcard I painted with some sort of white-out (remember that stuff?), stuck a number puzzle that originally came from a cereal box way back even further in time, and covered with gloss-finish style stuff.

It's odd and looks to have some sort of occultish/Magikal leanings. I have made many copies over the years, used it in performances and played with it. This is a scan of the original object that i've mucked about with.
